My Freakiest Childhood Moments

As kids, we all have things on TV and movies that scare us. I was never scared of much and traditionally scary things like ghosts, zombies, and vampires never scared me. Anyway, here is my list of the scariest childhood moments from TV, movies, video games, and more:

#15:Guava River (Lilo and Stitch:Trouble in Paradise) - As some of you may know, I used to be obsessed with Lilo and Stitch as a kid and when I got the video game for my birthday, I was psyched! I played the whole game and eventually conquered, but one level made me feel uneasy. The level's name was Guava River and it had some of the scariest mobs I had seen in a video game at the time. One was a giant robot who kicks you in the shin, one was a giant purple hand coming out of the ground (yikes!), one was a little green goblin-looking guy who headbutts you, but the one that really did it in for me, were these weird tiki-looking things. These ghost-like beasts are called Menehunes and originate from Hawaiian mythology. In the game they are VERY scary looking and throw fireballs at you. That made me want to almost quit the game entirely so I had Dad beat the level for me and I played it from there no problem.

#14:The Nightmare Before Christmas - I was only 5 years old and was going through a tough time. I was depressed because my beloved dog had just passed away. I was in my Mom's room playing with Pokemon toys, when I walked out of the room and saw what Dad was watching on TV. I saw a bunch of scary creatures singing Christmas songs. That didn't bother me, until I saw Jack Skellington's pet, the ghost dog. The ghost dog made me leave the room crying because of how it reminded me of MY dead dog. It also kinda scared me,
"What if the dog comes back to the dead and tries to hurt me," I thought. But then Dad walked in and I told him that the movie was bothering me REALLY bad. So he turned it off and we went for ice cream together. Now that I'm older the whole experience makes me think of the Family Guy parody of the movie in which Jack says,
"Fat chicks with black hair get tattoos of me!"
Makes me laugh EVERY time!

#13:Night Fright (Arthur) - I came home from Kindergarten one day and decided to watch a cartoon called Arthur. When I turned it on, the episode in question freaked me out pretty bad. It started off with Binky Barnes (one of Arthur's friends) having a nightmare about being attacked by giant hamburgers and french fries. That made me a little freaked out. But the one scene that REALLY bothered me, is in fact another nightmare sequence. The scene is where Binky has a dream about being trapped in his night light with all his friends standing there laughing at him. Plus the nightlight is shaped like a CLOWN of all things! I'm not scared of clowns personally, but that really made me nervous so I turned the show off and Mom said,
"It's just his imagination!" or something like that.

#12:Happy Tree Friends - You think that a show about cute little animals with adorable-sounding names like Giggles, Cuddles, and Lammy would be sickeningly sweet right? WRONG! The show is actually gorier than Mortal Kombat. The episode I saw when I was 11-years-old showed Lumpy the moose sawing his own foot off with a spoon. Then my friend showed me another one in which Giggles the chipmunk makes lemonade out of Petunia the skunk's eyeball. It made me want to vomit!

#11:The Bleeding Guitar (Meat Loaf) - One day I when in 2nd Grade, my Mom borrowed my friend's dad's Meat Loaf CD and we listening to it on the way to school. When I got home and listened to it again, one song in particular scared me REALLY bad. It started off this way:
"I remember the little things like it happened on a yesterday. I was barely 17 and I once killed a boy. I SMASHED HIM WITH MY GUITAR! That guitar bled for about a week,".
That made me feel disgusted and Mom changed the song right away. It actually made me not want to listen to Meat Loaf for a long time. Until now, I love it all over again! In fact, I'm listening to the song, Waisted Youth right now.

#9:Squidward in Clarinet Land (Spongebob) - It was Thanksgiving one morning and I turned on Spongebob because I didn't want to watch the parade (for whatever reason, I mean come on 10-year-old me, the parade is AWESOME!). But anyway, the episode started off normal until Mr. Krabs put a locker in Squidward's workplace. Squidward then goes into the locker (in a parody of The Chronicles of Narnia) in which he sees giant clarinets everywhere. He then sees a giant eagle head (the heck?) and the eagle head swallows him. In the eagle's stomach, he sees Spongebob holding his clarinet and chases him into a room filled with giant clarinets. Then he's in a pinball machine (again, WHAT!?) and Patrick pulls him out. Patrick then drops him and he explodes and is in space (?) he then lands back into the locker and melts.
"What the h.e. double hockey sticks did I just watch?" 9-year-old me thought and then I was SO freaked out, that I didn't want to even think about eagles for a while. I remember even hiding my stuffed animal of a eagle under my bed so I didn't have to look at it.

#8:The Scary Story (Between the Lions) - I don't quite remember this one, but when I was a kid Mom tells me a particular episode of Between the Lions scared me. She says that it starts off with a story about an old man and then the story gets dark and stormy. That's seriously all she remembers. She told that I then ran out and hugged Mom and told her I'm scared.

#7:Snorlkin (Neopets) - Being a Christian 1st grader, I didn't want anything to do with demons. I was also obsessed with Neopets at the time. Then one day, I saw that they released new Halloween Petpets. I was SO excited until I found out that one was a PURPLE DEMON!? I ran to Mom telling her that the Neopets people made a demon and she said,
"Demons are real, so what's wrong with putting them in your game. He's not a good guy, right!?"
"No," I said,
"Then that's fine!" Mom told me and I saved the creature to my collection.

#6:Maleficent (Sleeping Beauty) - I remember being REALLY afraid of Maleficent when I was a little boy. Every time she came up into conversation I would cringe and I refused to add an action figure of her to my collection. But now that I'm older, I like her character. Thanks to the new live-action film based off of the story!

#5:The Beast (Beauty and the Beast) - Another character that REALLY creeped me out as a kid was none other than the Beast. Something about how he looked made me shudder. But now that I've seen the whole movie, I like him.

#4:Following the Bouncing Orange (Annoying Orange) - This episode didn't scare me per say, it just worried me. The episode starts off with Orange annoying Pear (like always) and Pear tells him to take a hike. So Orange packs up his things and meets a bunch of golf balls and becomes king of the golf balls. The golf balls then started making fun of him. The episode made me nervous. It made me think
"What if I moved into a new school and nobody there liked me," and I started crying. Dad heard me in the other room and I told him that Annoying Orange was making me sad so I turned it off and hugged him.

#3:Brook Hook (Garbage Pail Kids) - I thought Garbage Pail kids were HILARIOUS as a kid, but one card in particular made me feel queasy and offended at the same time. It was the one that showed a HUMAN BABY attached to a fishing hook. What the shell were they thinking, marketing that stuff to kids?
"Dead baby jokes are NOT funny!" my 12-year-old self thought and I then stopped liking those cards for quite a while.

#2:The Yip-Yips (Sesame Street) - I remember being EXTREMELY AFRAID of the little martian Muppets that go like
"Yip yip yip yip yip yip yip yip, uh uh uh uh, yip yip yip yip yip!"
I was SO scared of them that I didn't want to have anything do with aliens. Mom says I wouldn't even watch "The Martian Beauty, Number 9 Cutie" cartoon that would sometimes on Sesame Street in the early 2000s. I remember being afraid of a book I had about aliens because of it.

#1:Alice Cooper (The Muppet Show) - Without a doubt, the scariest most and traumatizing thing I ever saw on TV as a kid was Alice Cooper with The Muppets. The Welcome To My Nightmare segment scared me SO bad that I didn't want even talk about Muppets for TWO WHOLE YEARS. I would burst into tears any time somebody so much as said Kermit, Miss Piggy or Alice Cooper.

I hope you enjoyed my list. Hope I didn't bring back any of YOUR scary childhood memories. See ya soon on The Matt Show!
